Notes: 1794-95: Exceptionally severe winter. The cold began on Christmas Eve, and lasted until late March, with a few temporary breaks. January was particularly cold, with a CET of 0.8c. It was the coldest January in the instrumental era, beginning 1659. The Severn and The Thames froze, and 'Frost Fairs' started up again. An extremely bitter temperature of -21c was recorded in London, on January 25th. In early February, there was a rapid, but only temporary thaw. Flooding ensued. The severe cold returned slightly later (mid February) and continued well into March. There were many recorded snow events. Summary: New Year’s Eve, 1988. Aziraphale attends the annual charity ball for the Strike a Prose foundation as an honoured guest, and is ~~pleasantly~~ surprised to run into Crowley. Just as the evening begins to drift into exciting yet unfamiliar territory, Gabriel shows up and assigns Aziraphale a time-sensitive blessing.

How can Aziraphale keep Crowley safe from the knowledge that they’d almost been caught together while he also tries to find the target of his blessing? Why is it proving to be so difficult to find one particular human?

Most importantly, why is Crowley being so charming, flattering, and hands-on tonight?

Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep

It is the mid fifteenth century, and after a battle, Aziraphale and Crowley find themselves tied together as hostages in the cellar of an inn. Unable, for various reasons, to resort to miracles to free themselves, they must work together to find a solution before the dawn of the next day, or Crowley risks being discorporated by the very people he was assigned to tempt.

A fic set in the time of the War of the Roses featuring friendship, co-operation and the giving and receiving of stealth hugs.

Rating: Teen and up for some swearing and mild references to violence.

For sonnet23. You asked for a hostage situation in which they can’t just miracle themselves out or miracle everything okay. This is mostly Book canon, but there are hints of Show characterisation here and there. Happy Holidays, I hope you enjoy this.
