To be honest, I haven't really read any books about Arthurian legends (or Dante to that matter) but I did a thorough wikipedia search and liked the things you also mentioned - that Merlin could be irritating old perv (I was also tempted to write him a bit softer, more mischievous so he and Crowley could do some bonding) and that Arthur is sometimes blinded by his morals.
Crowley might have a fool-proof solution to every problem, and it is to kidnap a suitable person and just let them to create some havoc. But thank you for the comment!
