Everybody was as in-character as you can possibly get: C & A were sweet and solemn simultaneously, your characterisation of Newt and Anathema was quite possibly the best I've ever seen, Shadwell & Mme. Tracy were so very themselves, and the Them were, well, Them. And my favourite character was Elvis. Why was my favourite character Elvis? I don't even like Elvis!
What really made this story, though, was the way everything was so understated. The things left unsaid and undescribed were tangible to me, as if I could tell what everyone was thinking and feeling without it needing to be described fully, only alluded to. The scene breaks were perfectly timed, too.
Okay, I could ramble for ages about this, but . . . my basic point is, you are fabulous and a superhero, dear Secret Author. This is genius work.
