Your attention to all the little sensory details not only makes the scenes vivid but I love the way you use them as pointers to events of greater magnitude, everything from the wobble of the deviled eggs signaling the concussion of bombs to too strident American servicemen with knife-edged smiles and laughter like a hail of bullets and a demon all too fragile and human with paper-thin lids that Aziraphale fingers as delicately as braile.
The scenes are of course haunting and poignant, but you achieve this with such a command of metaphor working hard on several levels. Brava!
