Title: If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe

Summary: Things are changing in Heaven. Angels can no longer see the fourth dimension, and Aziraphale’s been assigned to tasting fruit– that is, quality checking the biological life forms that will populate the Earth. He thinks senses are among God’s best inventions, but his friend Kabaiel misses crafting stars. When Lucifer appears with an idea for a secret project that will pit gravity against quantum level forces, Kabaiel signs on eagerly. Everything seems to be going well, but Aziraphale is worried. There’s something about the new project that he doesn’t like. If only he’d stop remembering the future…

Notes: My recipient’s third prompt (Something Aziraphale/Crowley inspired by the lyrics of Leonard Cohen, any song but “Hallelujah”) is the one I knew I’d be filling no matter what—especially given Cohen’s posthumous album release on 22 November 2019. Cohen’s son, Adam, says of the first track on Thanks for the Dance, “[My father] was hell-bent—or heaven-bent—on completing it, and we just were unable to get a musical accompaniment that he was satisfied with. I think it’s one in a long line of songs that have his essential thesis in life, which is the broken hallelujah. Everything cracks, and this is what happens to the heart.”
Summary: From the moment Aziraphale met Crowley on the curb out front and noticed Crowley surreptitiously shoving a tape into the Blaupunkt, he was sure he’d been on this sort of ride before. With Crowley, the latest musical releases were always cause for debate.

Summary: “There’ll be none your complaining about crumbs,” Aziraphale warned, materializing a fork. He cut a diminutive sliver of custard, nudging it enticingly against Crowley’s lips.

Crowley took the bite without protest. He licked the tines with a hazy expression that suggested this had no more been about food for him than it had been about cinema for Aziraphale.

“S’good,” he said, opening his mouth for more, so Aziraphale obliged him. “I could make this.”

Aziraphale snorted and indulged in a heaping forkful. “You? Baking? That would be the day.”
