Things with wings.

Aziraphale noticed wings like a particularly observant person or a particularly bored one would notice the quirks of someone's eyes, the little 'this-and-that's shaping someone's face, the oddness of someone's nose.

There was a certain amount to be said about wings. A number of lower demons enjoyed donning wings like a bat's, ripped like umbrella cloth and heavily veined in some places, bleeding where they believed it would be imposing.

This, of course, was a fashion which was undoubtedly in bad taste. A proper demon (a few Aziraphale could name) had wings like that of an angel's. (if not much cleaner) Both, after all, were of angel stock.

Aziraphale's own wings were soft as clouds, a subtle gray-white. Unimposing, slight, but pleasant, just as the angel was.

He remembered Crowley's.

Crowley put a lot of effort into keeping his wings pristine, or at least it seemed that way. Every feather seemed to align itself to the next in a flow that almost resembled what was once 'Crawly's snake skin pattern.

They were, ironically, the purest of white.

.

The silver city had been built by the Lilim long ago, long before the world, the garden, and the snake.

There were only the angels, the Lilim, and the Father's own voice.

And a certain two had already set themselves apart from the rest.

On the edge of nothingness, two angels were sitting, (or placing themselves comfortably in some position on the edge of nothingness) with one stroking the wings of the other.

Aziraphale had always admired his companion's wings. He ran his hands over the soft contours, kissing the white feathers with a tenderness that other angels could not match.

“I sometimes wonder how long this peace will last us while the Lilim are here.” Said the other. Aziraphale shook his head. “Though trust isn't something any of us allow with Lilith's children, we don't need to worry under our Father's guidance.”

“And what guidance is that? He has spoken to none of us for longer than I can remember. Not even Samael has heard His voice, and he's the first.”

“You've been speaking to the Morningstar?” Aziraphale said, concerned.

“No.”

“... He's been speaking to me.” The other added.

“And what did he say?”

Silence met that question. Aziraphale watched his companion with solemn eyes, cautiously lay his hands on his wings.

“He

The two felt the call like a thunder clap, the chill as they spread their wings.

“Ibriel!”

.

Ibriel was the one who designed the Silver City, who created it within his dreams and his soul.

The Lilim were the ones set to work on it, to slave away on every perfect detail, on every wall and door.

And having abused them this far, or so they claimed much later on, they struck back.

“And again, we do nothing.”

“Don't speak like that, my dear...”

“Are you so content with this?”

Aziraphale was grabbed roughly by the arm, catching a glimpse of dark gold in the eyes of the other.

“Living like this? Silently waiting? What if the answers never come, Aziraphale?”

“We simply...” Aziraphale wanted to placate him once more; he always could. But at this moment, he could do nothing, say nothing. He... doubted.

His arm was released, and perfect wings were unfolded in front of him.

“I don't know about you, but

Aziraphale watched him fly away, the last time he would see his companion, his brother, his belovedwelcome in the Silver City.

.

Even angels dream. Aziraphale knew that well enough, as he had a certain dream of his own.

Of what, you may ask?

Why of course, of wings.

A/N: Hi Siva, this is your Secret Santa :3 I'm sorry that my fic turned out crap D: Schedules were tight. If you want something extra, don't hesitate to come calling. I'm not used to writing GO fics or drawing GO art, but I've read nearly every one of your fics and I feel like I'm lacking ._.

So tell me what you want, and I can make this a proper Secret Santa, between us :3 My deadline had me working to finish this, but for you, Secret Santa is still open til Christmas, and yours truly will be delivering whatever it is on your wish list.

Thanks for your time.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *incoherent*

You should see the grin on my face, it's HUGE and my mom is giving me a funny look. A Lucifer crossover! This has made my year! I loved Issue 50 so much, and I love wings, and hints of Aziraphale/Crowley when they were angels, and you have produced an absolutely WONDERFUL present for me, my dear. I LOVE THIS.

I love your descriptions - I can picture everything so perfectly, feel the chill, feel their doubt. It's heartbreaking. I love how you leave Crowley's angel name open, because I know different people might have different opinions on what it is.

It's short but I think the length is perfect. And the ending is sweet and perfect. In short, perfect. You're not lacking at all, dear. <3 <3 <3 Thank you so much, dear Secret Santa! *glomp*

And I forgot to mention how lovely it is that Crowley has pure white wings in pristine condition. Normally I'm a fan of him having black wings but here, him having white wings just fits. 8D Lovely.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW GLAD I AM YOU LIKE IT *gasp*
I was taking a gamble, writing it with Lucifer. I had a feeling you'd get it though xD

I would still love to add to the gift, even if it's past the season.

I read a bunch of your stories on ff.net and I was so scared I couldn't live up to your stuff D:

In ff.net, I'm under billie the fourth sage
if you wanna talk xD I'm not on livejournal, sadly.

HAPPY NEW YEARS~

I DO! :D

And yes, I got it immediately and was over the moon. xD And goodness, it's alright, dear, I love it.

I haven't even uploaded most of my recent stuff. Goodness, there are so many authors I myself can never live up to. And I think your fic is absolutely lovely, better than mine. I don't think I'd dare write Lucifer fanfic.

I think you're supposed to wait for the Big Reveal. ;) but awesome! I'm rarely on FFN but I'll go look you up.

And a very Happy New Year to you too! <3

This deserves more comments, because it is beautiful and melancholy.

Which of course means I can't think of anything more coherent to add. I love the last three lines, they really tie everything together beautifully.

Cheers!
