Artist's Notes: It was great to get this prompt and the mini history lesson on the Napoleonic Wars that came with it. Marshal Ney (guy in the middle at the top) was a French commander who fought for and against Napoleon at various times. He got wounded in the neck at Smolensk, and I couldn't resist sneaking that into the picture. He was known as the last Frenchman on Russian soil, as he brought up the rear-guard in the retreat from Moscow.

Aziraphale's uniform is based off of the French cavalry uniform and Crowley's is based off of the Russian infantry officer's uniform. I took a few very slight liberties with the uniforms. Crowley probably spent most of the war telling his human army superiors that retreat was the best tactic. On the other side of the conflict, Aziraphale probably spent most of his time trying to tell his superior officers that attacking Russia was a terrible idea; both of them failed miserably in getting their superiors to listen until quite late in the conflict.

As for the flowers, the iris is the national flower of France, and the chamomile is the national flower of Russia. Aziraphale's wing is based off of an osprey's and Crowley's is based off of a rough-legged hawk's. I imagine Aziraphale would have large but delicate and drab wings and Crowley would have powerful well-cared-for wings.

Absolutely beautiful! Love the muted coloring, the bit of Art Nouveau styling and the way that the flame from Aziraphale's sword mixes with the smoke from Crowley's gun.

Terrific job, Anon!

Oh, thank you so much, Secret Artist! This is beautiful!

And I can just see poor Aziraphale despairing as he manages to convince everybody but Napoleon that really it's past time to return home.

Wow, this is awesome. I love the composition and all the little details (and including the flowers is just so fitting for those two, given the location of their first meeting in the book).

Also, I just reeeeeeally want to run my fingers through Crowley's hair.
