They seem to have already reached some form of the Arrangement -- their fighting seems to be just something that's expected of them.

Makes me wonder how the guy with the sword was in danger of losing (?) his head, and how tearing off his enemy's shirt would prevent that ... Intriguing backstory to be guessed at and speculated about! Yay!

And the plot holes widen...O_O Actually, I was wondering about the Arrangement...this is just slightly too early for the actual Arrangement (that is, slightly in angelic(-stock) terms, so, maybe a century and a half, two?). But I sort of went with the same basic feel--they're reaching the point that made them realize just how pointless the actual fighting was.

And, as for the sword...it honestly never occurred to me, writing this, that Az would have been the greater threat, as he has the weapon. Any mental image of Aziraphale that I can draw, however, has him a bit less than competent with the sword--he's enough of a threat because he can swing it around like a maniac, but in terms of actual fighting prowess Crowley has the skill, if not the size.

The rest, most ESPECIALLY the tearing of the shirt, you are welcome to speculate. ;) I have my own theories, but neither the little devil nor the little angel are divulging any more. :P

I see the Arrangement as something that happened gradually, that eventually they formalised because it was already sort of there. So although this is pre-Arrangement-with-capital-letter, the feelings that generated it were already gelling.

Oh, dear! Poor Azi! We'll just have to agree to disagree here, Secret Artist: I just take as read that angels who have flaming swords are good with them. And that this particular angel-with-flaming-sword is perhaps a little reluctant to actually use it on this particular demon .... ;]

Ah!, but they do get reticent with details once in a while, don't they? 8P

Oh, indeed. Indeed they do. ^_^_^_^_^_^

A: Reticent? I'm sure I have no idea what you are talking about...

It's been ages since I read the book, but... didn't the Matatron say something about how it was time Aziraphale remembered how to use a sword again, and he was not all that eager to remember how bad he used to be?

... it could have been in a fic, actually, nevermind.

No, you're pretty close, actually--Az says "it's been ages since I held a flaming sword," and the Metatron replies that he'll "have a lot of opportunity to relearn." Which really does imply that Az had to have been at least passable with a sword at one point.

^___^ I'm so GLAD!! I've been fighting with his design for months, now, and I think of all the times I drew his face in this comic, that closeup has to be my favorite. I love his dorky little upturned nose! Gives that extra cherubic flair.
