To Muriel, 37th Class Scrivener, Current Liaison on Earth and Bookshop Manager of A.Z. Fell & Co.,

I know we haven’t had much time to speak since my appointment to Supreme Archangel. There has been so much more paperwork than one would expect, though I’m sure you are most familiar with that in your previous role in Heaven. It’s definitely been an adjustment from my previous field assignment on Earth.

I wanted to take time to thank you for looking after the bookshop. I hope you are making yourself at home and feel comfortable in your role. Earth is most definitely different from Heaven. I know Nina and Maggie are nearby and can help answer questions for you, as can Crowley. He has always done well with assisting newcomers to Earth with some of the finer points of blending in with the humans.

You are welcome to read any of the books in the shop, though I would be eternally grateful if you didn’t sell any. I know that must be a confusing assignment, to work as a bookseller and yet not sell any books. But they are all terribly dear to me.

I also would like to ask you to look after Crowley. We haven’t been speaking since I took my new role, and I am very concerned about how things are for him after I left. He is even more dear to me than my books.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I’m needed in any way. You can reply directly to this letter without fear of any unintended readers. I can assure you the wards on this line of communication are quite secure and letters sent this way will reach me directly.

To the Supreme Archangel, also known as Aziraphale, the Principality and Guardian of the Eastern Gate of Eden, formerly known as Mr AZ Fell, bookshop owner and aka Fell the Marvellous, Prestidigitator,

I am writing to let you know that your letter to Muriel was intercepted, by none other than myself, as it was casually left on your old desk in your bookshop for anyone who happened to be standing nearby to break the wards and peek at while your scrivener was away making cocoa at my request.

It’s been dreadfully boring without you down here, I must admit. So boring in fact, that when Shax offered me the position of Grand Duke of Hell, I found I couldn’t resist. I figured since you were willing to leave retirement to run things in Heaven, maybe I could do the same for Hell.

I have been making the most of it, making a few changes in Hell and still finding enough excuses to stay on Earth to oversee things directly here. Everyone seems to want a job to do and it’s hard to find enough things to keep everyone busy and out of the way.

I tempted Muriel into selling a few books. If you’d like them back you can come get them yourself. Decided to pick up reading as a hobby while I wait.

To my dear Thin Dark Duke,

You never have to purchase a book, my dear, you are always welcome to read anything in the shop. I’m overly curious though, which ones you picked up and what you thought of them, but I’m afraid my curiosity will have to wait.

I wish we had more time to talk things through properly, but there are things afoot I am doing my best to prevent. I didn’t see another way to stop these plans from happening besides taking an active role myself. I still feel the same duty to protect the humans that I have from the beginning, sanctioned or not, and am trying to keep everyone on Earth safe.

That includes you, my dearest Crowley. I wish I could have run off to Alpha Centauri with you when you asked. I wish I could have returned your kiss, confessed my feelings, and stayed with you. But, just like last time, I fear the consequences if I do not do my best to act on what has been revealed to me. And yet I still hold out hope for a day to come when I can speak more freely to you and continue that conversation the way I wish it could have gone, and generously return your affections.

You were able to read my letter to Muriel because every ward I have ever placed has you as the exception. You are always welcome, in my bookshop, or to read my letters, as you deem fit, my dear.

To my Bastard Worth Knowing,

I already saw the files while I was in Heaven with Muriel during the demonic invasion, and why Jim lost his memory and was demoted from his role for choosing to vote down the Second Coming, if that’s the big secret you’re alluding to.

It leaves me curious, however. If there is a Second Coming, does that mean Jesus gets a second birthday? I think that would be rather disruptive. In some parts of the world his other birthday takes up at least two of the twelve months of the year.

Am ready to continue that conversation when you are.

My dearest Crowley,

You are rarely from my thoughts, now as ever, I must admit. My original plan for the ball was to bring Nina and Maggie together, and also confess my feelings for you, right before everything fell apart. When Metatron offered the role, I still hesitated at the lift, until he told me about the plans for the Second Coming, and then I knew I had to go. I still pray every day for a happily ever after for us, but I fear that happily ever after will be short-lived if I can’t do something to stop a second Armageddon. I have plans in the making, and will also keep you apprised when I have those in place, as I am sure I will need your help with it before the end.

Your love confession plays on a loop in my thoughts ever still, and the hundred other things I wish I had been able to say back to you. Metatron was watching, and I couldn’t respond the way I wanted to, but I hope you know how deeply I feel for you, no matter how far apart we are, and how much I’ve always loved you, dearest.

The last thing I tasted before leaving Earth was your lips, and it has left me ravenous for more. I feel like I felt back in Uz, trying ox ribs for the first time.

When next we meet I expect you to clear time on your busy calendar as Grand Duke so you can tempt the Supreme Archangel properly.

To my Angel,

I have added real estate to my hobbies in my not-so-busy role as Grand Duke, and recently invested in a small cottage by the sea near the South Downs. There are quite a few empty bookshelves in it, and it has a nice garden in the back that definitely needs more discipline. As I know you are more experienced in real estate than I am, when your calendar next has an opening, perhaps I can tempt you to spending some time there with me, and letting me know properly if I made a good investment.
