Rating: T for a little swearing.
You asked for an AU in which Aziraphale and Crowley did not meet in Eden and grew to be more angelic and demonic respectively. In this AU they do not meet in Eden and as a consequence are more in thrall to their respective ‘sides’, whilst being actively disinclined to have anything to do with each other for reasons that are explained early on. I have concentrated on how not getting to know each other from the start impoverishes both of their lives rather than making them overly ‘angelic’ or ‘demonic’ as such, although they do work harder for their ‘employers’ as a result. The fic weaves in and out of the events of canon, picking it up and leaving it as it suits the narrative. It’s rather longer than I first intended it to be - I got carried away!
Thank you for the prompt, I enjoyed writing this very much. I hope that you like it, and have a wonderful Holiday Season!
Summary
Aziraphale and Crowley do not meet on that wall in Eden. Convinced, for various reasons, that their adversary on Earth is to be avoided as much as possible, they both do their very best to stay out of each other’s way. After realising that they are still cancelling each other out, they do eventually talk, and an Arrangement of sorts is born. It is not long after this that they begin exchanging notes…
An alternative, mostly canon compliant AU in which there is what might be described as a ‘quick burn’ over the eleven years leading to the Apocalypse.
Another apple, to slice into pieces
Tell me how all this, and love too, will ruin us. These, our bodies, possessed by light. Tell me we’ll never get used to it.
